Will GTA 6 Have NFTs? Rockstar's Actual Position
Rockstar has not announced NFTs for GTA 6, and years of statements, policy changes and legal action from Take-Two point firmly against it.
Rockstar has never announced NFTs for GTA 6, and nothing about the game's marketing, trailers or investor disclosures has described one. That alone would leave the question open. What closes it is everything Take-Two has said and done since NFTs first became a talking point in games: a skeptical CEO, a rewritten platform license that names NFTs specifically as barred, and a multi-year record of legal action against fan projects that tried to add them anyway.
What Take-Two's CEO has actually said
Strauss Zelnick's public position on NFTs is more nuanced than a flat "no," and it is worth representing accurately rather than flattening it into a soundbite. In a November 2021 interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Zelnick described himself as open to the technology in principle while drawing a sharp line on value: "there's rarity for sure in all NFTs, but I'm not sure there's value." He has separately described himself as skeptical of the broader speculative frenzy around blockchain-based virtual goods, warning that "when lots of money is being thrown at a word... you can probably guess how it's going to end for a lot of people." That is an executive who has thought about the technology and remains unconvinced it belongs in Take-Two's flagship franchise — not one preparing to ship it.
What Take-Two has actually done
Statements from a CEO can change. Contract terms and legal filings are a stronger signal of intent, and Take-Two has built up several years of both pointing the same direction:
- November 2022 — Rockstar updated its Roleplay (RP) server guidelines to state plainly that it does not want the GTA brand associated with NFTs or cryptocurrency, closing off a route some fan servers had started to explore.
- 2022–2023 — Take-Two pursued legal notices against multiple GTA V roleplay servers running tokenised economies, including the Trenches server and Cidade Alta, both of which stripped their NFT features to keep operating. Our Creator License breakdown covers this enforcement history in more detail.
- August 2023 — Rockstar acquired Cfx.re, the studio behind the FiveM and RedM platforms that GTA 6's roleplay-server economy is expected to run on, bringing the rulebook governing that entire ecosystem in-house.
- 12 January 2026 — Cfx.re's rewritten Creator Platform License Agreement, now aligned with Rockstar's own Terms of Service, explicitly bars facilitating the use, sale or promotion of cryptocurrencies or crypto assets, naming "NFTs," "tokens" and "meme coins" specifically as out of bounds.
Each of these predates GTA 6's launch and none of them was reversed. If Rockstar intended to introduce NFTs into GTA 6 or its surrounding ecosystem, it has spent four years building exactly the wrong set of policies and legal precedent to do so.
What this does and does not tell us
None of this is a direct statement of "GTA 6 will not have NFTs" — Rockstar has not made that statement in so many words, and this page is not claiming it has. What we can say honestly is that we have found no announcement, trailer detail, filing or executive statement pointing toward NFTs in GTA 6, and every available signal — the CEO's own skepticism about value, the contractual ban across the platforms the game's community economy will run on, and a legal track record of shutting projects down for trying — points the other way. That is an inference built from a consistent pattern, not a confirmed fact, and we are labelling it as exactly that.

Search interest around "GTA 6 NFT marketplace" mostly comes from two different groups: players wondering whether Rockstar will add collectible items as NFTs, and people who have encountered an unofficial project claiming to sell GTA 6-branded NFTs and want to know if it is real.
