Everything Actually Known About GTA 6 So Far
A maintained, sourced reference for what Rockstar has actually announced about GTA 6 — release date, setting, editions, trailers and mode.
This page collects only what Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive or a named, on-the-record report has actually stated about Grand Theft Auto VI, with a source attached to every line. Nothing here comes from leaked builds or unverified rumor sites, and where the industry's read on something goes beyond what Rockstar has literally said, that gap is called out explicitly rather than smoothed over. We will keep updating this page as Rockstar publishes more.
Release date and platforms
GTA 6 is set to launch on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to Rockstar's own announcement, reported by ESPN and other outlets on November 6, 2025. That date has moved twice: Rockstar had originally pointed toward a 2025 window, then set May 26, 2026 as the release date in a statement reported by Variety on May 2, 2025, before moving to the current November 19, 2026 date six months later. No PC version has a release date; see our dedicated PC guide for what is and is not known there.
Setting and protagonists
The game is set in the fictional state of Leonida, built around a modern-day Vice City, according to Rockstar's first trailer, released December 4, 2023 (moved up a day from its planned December 5 debut after an unrelated leak, per contemporary reporting from Variety and others). The two playable protagonists are Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval; Lucia is the first female protagonist to lead a mainline Grand Theft Auto game, a detail Variety's coverage of the reveal trailer highlighted directly.
Trailers Rockstar has released
- Trailer 1 — released December 4, 2023, 91 seconds long, introduced Leonida, Vice City and Lucia.
- Trailer 2 — released May 6, 2025, alongside the May 26, 2026 release-date announcement. Rockstar itself reported the trailer drew more than 475 million views across platforms in its first 24 hours, which the studio described as the biggest video launch it had tracked.
- Trailer 3, "An Extended Look" — premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026 at 3 p.m. ET, described by Netflix's own Tudum coverage and by Variety as a first-of-its-kind partnership giving Netflix a roughly six-hour head start before the same footage went up on Rockstar's YouTube channel and the official GTA VI site at 9 p.m. ET. Reporting on the trailer's length varies by outlet — figures of roughly 20 to 27 minutes of new footage have both been reported — but all sources agree it was captured from in-game PlayStation 5 footage rather than pre-rendered cinematics, per TechRadar's reporting.
Editions and price
Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026 through digital storefronts including the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. Rockstar's own pricing, reported by Variety and other outlets covering the pre-order opening, set two editions:
- Standard Edition — $79.99. The complete story campaign across Leonida and Vice City with full map access.
- Ultimate Edition — $99.99. Adds a set of extra vehicles and weapons, several exclusive in-game shops, a bonus mission, an extra garage, a vehicle-restoration activity and cosmetic sets for Jason and Lucia, according to Rockstar's edition comparison as reported by TechRadar and GTA Boom. Standard Edition owners can reportedly buy the Ultimate upgrade separately later rather than being locked out of it.
Every pre-order and every purchase made before November 20, 2026 reportedly includes the Vintage Vice City Pack — a set of retro 1980s-styled outfits for Jason and Lucia — as a pre-order bonus.

Single-player and GTA Online
Rockstar's own PlayStation Store listing states, in response to the FAQ question of whether the game has multiplayer features, that "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience" — wording reported directly by Insider Gaming and echoed across Rockstar's pre-order materials, per additional reporting from GTA Boom. That is the actual, sourced statement. What Rockstar has not done is issue a dedicated statement saying "there is no online mode at launch" in those words — the absence of any online-mode language across every official channel, combined with that single-player wording, is what has led outlets to conclude GTA Online-style multiplayer is not part of the November 19 release, rather than Rockstar confirming that framing directly. We go through that distinction in full in our guide to what GTA 6 Online is expected to be.
What remains genuinely unknown
Rockstar has not published a download size, storage requirement or preload date for either console version. Figures circulating in the range of 120–200GB are analyst and outlet estimates, not Rockstar numbers — treat any specific gigabyte figure you see elsewhere as an estimate until Rockstar's own store listings publish one. A PC release has not been dated in any form. No Rockstar statement has given a specific date, or even a specific quarter, for the online mode the single-player framing above implies is coming later.
