GTA 6 on PC: What's Known and What Isn't

No PC release has been dated for GTA 6. Here is Take-Two's own stated reasoning, and what Rockstar's release history suggests about timing.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. No PC version has been announced or dated by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive. Nothing else about a PC version has been stated by either company — everything past this paragraph is either a direct quote from Take-Two's CEO explaining the console-first strategy, or a pattern drawn from Rockstar's own release history, clearly labelled as precedent rather than promise.

What Take-Two has actually said about it

Asked directly why GTA 6 is not launching on PC alongside consoles, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was quoted by TechRadar giving a specific rationale: "Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you're judged by serving the core," adding that "if your core consumer isn't there, if they're not served first and best, you kind of don't hit your other consumers." In the same round of reporting, Zelnick reportedly denied that a platform-holder exclusivity deal with Sony was behind the decision, framing the console-first sequencing as Rockstar's own strategic choice rather than a contractual restriction. Separate TechRadar reporting notes Take-Two has also pointed to the console launch itself as a likely driver of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S hardware sales — another reason, on top of the "serve the core first" framing, to want console players to have the game to themselves for a period.

None of that reporting includes a date, a timeframe, or even a confirmation that a PC version will definitely happen — though given that every mainline Grand Theft Auto game since GTA 3 has eventually reached PC, a PC release at some point is a reasonable expectation based on precedent, not something Rockstar has stated as fact for this title specifically.

What Rockstar's own release history suggests about timing

Rockstar's last three major open-world releases all reached PC well after their console debut, and the pattern has trended slower, not faster, as the games have grown larger:

  • Grand Theft Auto IV launched on consoles in April 2008 and reached PC that December — roughly a seven-month gap, the shortest of the three.
  • Grand Theft Auto V launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 and did not reach PC until April 2015 — a gap of roughly nineteen months, delayed from an original Fall 2014 target that Rockstar pushed back to add what it described at the time as more robust anti-cheat and multiplayer stability work.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PS4 and Xbox One in October 2018 and reached PC in November 2019 — a gap of roughly thirteen months, per Take-Two's own press release confirming that date.

If GTA 6 follows a gap anywhere in that thirteen-to-nineteen-month range counted from its own November 19, 2026 console launch, a PC release would land sometime between roughly December 2027 and June 2028. That is arithmetic applied to a historical pattern, not a Rockstar-stated date, and Rockstar's next PC release could just as easily fall outside that range in either direction — the pattern is not a rule.

Why a staggered launch benefits Take-Two twice

TechRadar's reporting frames the staggered approach as deliberately creating two separate commercial moments rather than one: a console-driven launch spike in November 2026, and a second sales and marketing spike whenever the PC version eventually ships, typically arriving with visual upgrades and, based on GTA 5's PC version, expanded modding support. That two-spike structure is consistent with Zelnick's own "serve the core first" framing above — it is a business rationale Take-Two has been open about, not something we are inferring.

What we do not know, stated plainly

There is no confirmed PC release date. There is no confirmed PC release year. There is no confirmed minimum or recommended PC specification, since none of that can exist before a release is even scheduled. Anything you see elsewhere presented as a specific "GTA 6 PC release date" ahead of an actual Rockstar or Take-Two announcement should be treated as speculation, however confidently it is written.
